| | | ID help please Good morning.
i have a hanging tomato plant in a good sunny spot. on the underside of one of the leafs there are some tiny little beetles. they are so small i have been unable to photo them they are small and round about 1.5 mm and look like tiny ladybirds they have a black head and a black line down the back they also have a rusty brown colour on the back and two black dots on the center of the back either side of the black line. there are ablout 20 of them all huddled together and they haven't moved for the last 2 weeks except when we knowcked one off the leaf to look at it. beside where they sit there are some eggs which are about the same size as the little buggs. the eggs are white/clear about 2 mm ling and stand upright to the leef they have a tiny black dot on the end of the egg. as i cannot believe these are the eggs of the beetles (the eggs being the same size or bigger) i think they may not be connected.
has anyone heard or seen something like my buggs? never seen anything like it in my life. and all photos have failed so far and can't find them on the web.
all ID's helpfull as i can look them up then.
thank you! |

| | | Re: ID help please I wonder if these might be true bug nymphs emerging from an egg cluster - although two weeks seems a long time for them to stay still. You'll see if they start groing, moving. It's always worth taking a picture, however poor the quality ... Quote:

| | | Re: ID help please not true bugs totally the wrong shape. these are more like the oomorphus concolor in shape almost round no seperate head just the black hood marking more like a 2 spot ladybird in marking but brown and not red and about a 1/4 of a ladybird's size. i think my only bet is to stick one to a card and post it to someone as i cannot see them on the web at all. |

| | | Re: ID help please Well, early nymphs of shieldbugs can be very ladybird-shaped e.g.: http://www.mybitoftheplanet.com/2006...ieldbugssm.jpg
I'm not suggesting that species, the patterns don't fit but .... do you have an entomologist locally? |
