| | | A few flies for ID please I've been collecting these over the last couple of weeks!
1. Looks a bit like Empis digramma but doesn't have the black stripe running along the middle of the back. And the eyes are red rather than black. Right size though, about 6mm...
2. A very pretty fly about 10-12mm long...
3. This one was on the wing mirror of my car. Also about 10mm...
4. And finally, I think these may be Empis tessellata but they look like they're feeding on the thistle rather than using their proboscis to stab other flies...
All seen locally here in north-west Kent. Thansk in advance for any help with these.

| | | Re: A few flies for ID please Sorry oxycera, this is going to sound awfully rude and ungracious of me but can I just ask if there's any possibility of a typo in "Xanthepis lutea". It's just that I've Googled it to find more info and possibly a common name and got "Your search - Xanthepis lutea - did not match any documents." I can't remember the last time I Googled something and got no matches at all.

| | | Re: A few flies for ID please not often you can use genitalia from a photo of a live specimen to confirm id.
Having said that, I've never found this species so I'm just going on the illustration in Collin's book (plus description, of course). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
