| | | What is this female emerald damselfly doing? I saw a female emerald today and she did the following in the sequence shown...    
I didn't think she was laying as she was on reeds at the very edge of the boggy bit round the pond .. the behaviour only lasted a few seconds and then she was back to just sitting straight out as usual... any explanations would be good  Thanks
ps the camera was handheld so that is why the framing isn't the same in each.... |

Possibly displaying to attract the opposite sex, but I'm sure some of the Dragonfly experts will answer soon

| | | Re: What is this female emerald damselfly doing? She may well have been ovipositing as lestes oviposit into the stems. They sometimes travel down the stem doing this and they can eventually end up under the water surface, totally.

Wild-Woman - the stems were right at the edge of the pond and she didn't seem to move down them at al, she only did this once in 10 mins of watching her so so you think she might have been egg laying or is the "doing her exercises" theory more likely? |  | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
