Flying ants

Hi

I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me with regards to flying ants. I am doing some research on them and am trying to find out when and where would be a good time this year to see them in their biggest numbers around the UK. From what I know so far it seems a lot to do with humidity and temperature, but if someone could be more specific that would be great. Also, perhaps people could post here when they begin to see the flying ants appearing where they live.

I think flying ants are the swarming of normal ants, with only the sexually complete ants taking part. It normally takes place towards the end of Summer, and I have seen swarms in places ranging from the back garden to round a cairn on the fell-tops in Cumbria. Good luck with the research, I think you will have to be either lucky or find out from those in the local area. Welcome to the site here, hope you enjoy it.
