| | | Unidentified monster fly!! I found this beast perched on a fence at Priory Water this afternoon and I have absolutely no idea what it is.
The fly was huge, in excess of 25mm long, I measured it using a 20p coin as a scale. There were two queen wasps collecting wood from the same rail and this monster made them look like dwarfs.
The biggest shame was that I didn't have my macro lens with me, these images were taken with a Bigma set at around 260mm, the fly was so large that the lens actually locked onto it instead of the rail! 
All ideas welcome, one thing is for certain is that it will be a new species for the reserve.

| | | Re: Unidentified monster fly!! I've seen these in Kent. We had one on the side of a marquee a few weeks back and boy was it big. Definitely a horse fly of sorts.
