| | | Re: Ladybirds I've not seen many yet so far this year and I was also wondering if the Ladybird houses do any good as had been thinking about getting one, can anyone remember the year when we had an epidemic of them or was it just on the east coast?, I can remember going to Sutton-on-Sea one weekend and had great difficulty trying not to walk on them they everywhere many deep and our garden more inland was also covered there was millions of them.

| | | Re: Ladybirds We were only commenting this very lunchtime that there are no ladybirds (or butterflies) around. We have no blackfly or greenfly either and wonder if there the predator/prey link applies.
We had Red Admiral and Peacock butterflies at the end of April/beginning of May but nothing lately although we have plenty of flowers in the garden. Bees do seem fairly plentiful (a fine scientific judgement here ).

| | | Re: Ladybirds It seems generally lacking in insects at the moment - apart from midgey type things. Seen the odd bee, hornet, butterfly and damselfly but not sure i've seen a ladybird this year??? |

| | | Re: Ladybirds Plenty in our garden, but we`ve got an infestation of greenfly this year, mainly on the Honeysuckle so masses of food for them. Also numbers of Lacewings which is a species i`ve not seen before this year, no doubt attracted by the hordes of greenfly too.Lots more insects in the garden than last year, but that`s possibly due to the pond maturing a bit, and more flowering plants this year to attract them.

| | | Re: Ladybirds I haven't seen many on my wanderings, the only ones i have seen tend to be those rescued from the pool, one of which was a 2 spot. I have to admit to being surprised at how many flys and beetles i have saved from there. |

| | | Re: Ladybirds In our cruddy little garden in Reading we're up to six species of Ladybirds now.
In order, from February....
Pine
Harlequin
7-Spot
14-Spot
22-Spot
2 spot.
No real infestation of aphids either - I'm wondering what they're eating!
