Broad Bodied Chaser plus a couple of others

I took this picture the other day, being relatively new to dragonflies etc I'd never knowingly seen anything like this before



I'm not altogether certain what this is - is it a Four Spot?



i saw these 2 at the same location today. There were quite a few of them but were a lot smaller than the first one I've posted, also the body was a lot bluer. I also noticed that they appeared to fold their wings forward when at rest - is that normal?

The 2nd looks likea 4 spot and the last two are black tailed skimmers I believe

Hopefully there will be a confirmation soon - Im a bit rusty after a far too long winter lol

1, 2, and 4 are ok, but is'nt No3 a male Keeled skimmer with the white antehumeral stripes and no black tip to the tail.

Agree with your IDs. 3 is Keeled Skimmer.

Can black tailed skimmers not have a black tip to the tail - atleast to start with as I was told it was the result of a blck liquid comeing from the rear point of the abdomen. Also may I ask whats the antehumeral stripe?

Just to be clear (is so hard to be on forums sometimes) these are question for future reference rather than questioning your IDs

Number 3 is a keeled skimmer. Antehumeral stripes are the prominent white stripes evident on the thorax in pic' 3.

Hi Ukwildlifeo, I have'nt heard of the black tip not being there on the Black tailed skimmer, but your probably right, the main thing that pointed to it being a Keeled skimmer was the white Antehumeral stripes.

Here's an example of the Antehumeral stripe on a Southern hawker I took last August.
