More Flies for id.

This one was around 6mm long in the body:



This one was longer, but overall very small.





This one was about 3mm long: (I actually managed to measure it!)



I apologise for this one, I doubt there's enough to get an id. A much larger fly, smaller than a flesh fly, I'd say about 12-15mm. long overall.

4th shot shows a Platypalpus (empid). Might actually be possible to specifically id it but needs time to consult collection.

I think #1 is a Non-biting Midge.

1 is a chironomine chironomid. A Chironomus or closely related genus.
2 and 3 are the orthocladine chironomids Cricotopus. There are many species, mostly with this pattern.
3 is Platypalpus minutus/australominutus.
4 is a muscoid fly - I will look in more detail later, the sixth form have just arrived.

There have been quite a few shots of Hylemya vagans recently. The feather arista on the antenna and yellow legs mean that number 4 could be a female of this species.
