| | | Northern brown Argus?
Can anyone tell me if these are Northern Brown Argus butterflies? I know they are around the area. Photographed at Trowbarrow NR, Lancashire at the weekend

I think that these are all Northern Brown Argus (were they the same butterfly or are they 3 different individuals?) the orange markings on the upperside seem much less obvious than I would expect on a Brown Argus, and on the first photo the butterfly shows a pure white spot in the centre of the hindwing. Very nice find and photos!

Argus 1 + 2 were the same butterfly, 3 was a different individual. Spoke to the young bloke guarding the Slipper Orchid at Silverdale and he said that NBAs had been flying around the glade there and were about at Trowbarrow.
Looking on the web I saw some photos of NBAs from Scotland and they seemed to have more white patches on the underwing but then I found a pic of an English NBA that seemed to match mine.

The ladies slipper site is fairly reliable for NBA, as is nearby Gait Barrows.
