| | Evarcha falcata males fighting Not a glorious setting, but thought some might like to see this...
I noticed them 'semaphoring' from their own leaves, about 150 mm apart. That involved waving legs I and II and their palps. The competiton got more intense as the male, on the left, closed range until he was on the same leaf; cue more vigorous leg and palp waving. There was a short pause and then a brief, but dramatic, wrestle. I have to say that it was a brilliant wildlife moment for me and reminded me of the Panamanian Gold Frog in the recent "Life In Cold Blood" series. |

Gotta know HSW.......What happened after the wrestling match and was there a clear winner and loser?

| | | Re: Evarcha falcata males fighting Thanks people. Great that you were interested, I should have known and posted it earlier.
The one on the right won, the loser left the 'arena' fairly briskly. There was a female about forty cm away, but I couldn't see her spectating!
The winner repositioned himself after watching the loser out of view, which was nice for me ... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
