Unidentified insect
I'm sorry I don't have a photo. This insect flew through my living room the other day (late May, UK) and made me jump because it looked capable of stinging. It was about the same size as a Crane Fly but it's body was much thicker - about 5 or 6mm in diameter and 20-25mm in length - the tip of it's abdomen was raised up and I think it was pointed. The colour of the body was (I think) brown.

Anyone any ideas - I've never seen one before and would like to know just what it was.

Welcome to WAB mate. The first thing that comes to mind is a scorpion fly. Have a look on google and see what you reckon?

I think I have found it - it looks like Tanyptera atrata - a kind of crane fly. Thanks for looking all the same.
