I was visiting my sister near London last week and this insect was in her kitchen. I was reading online and there's something called a stink bug, it looks rather like it?  |

A very warm welcome to WAB Artygirl, you've found a good place 
Your insect is a Green Shield Bug - Palomena prasina. Pretty common at this time of year. I'm pretty sure that they have been nicknamed that- rather apt if you give it a sniff

It is one of the green shieldbugs Palomena prasina. While I have never really noticed their smell I once was squirted in the eye by one. It was just like getting soap in the eye! |

Thanks for the welcome! I've never seen anything like it in the UK before, although I must say, I cant say I've looked very hard. Is the Shield bug another name for the stink bug? I'll have to have a look online at some documents, pretty interesting! |

There are a few types of shield bug in Britain, and they do smell funny Have a look at Sloe bugs too, which are pretty much the same shape but just have different colours- interesting ones. | | |
