Hi Susie.

Looks a bit like this rare Cranefly Ctenophora flaveolata I found a few weeks ago.

It's a cranefly - and a rare one, but I'm not sure which one. Someone will know it.

I thought I would give you an update.

I contacted my County Recorder, who was extremely helpful and identified the cranefly in the picture as Ctenophora bimaculata (= Dictenidia bimaculata). Apparently there have only been two county records, one from The Mens in 1989 and an old reference in a Victorian County History.

It is similar too, but different from, Deerstalkers, Dan.

I am very grateful to Oxycera and Deerstalker for the help they have given me, without them I wouldn't have known it was worth approaching the County Recorder.
