ants farming aphids
Oy has a pic of this activity already on the website

We now have it on our broadbeans, just coming into flower. OK, I have photographed it, but what I really want to know is whether it is a GOOD or BAD thing as far as the broadbeans are concerned.

Do we happily co-exist, or is some ....er extermination advisable (I would do it by hand squashing as we are 101% organic)

Ants will try and protect their 'herd' from predators and thus you may have to institute some control measures.

Try giving them a blast with a hose, or try soapy water. If you are a smoker, boil up some dogends and spray them with that.

Not sure if that latter is legal ie Manafacturing of Pesticides. but I'm sure our resident Bobby will put me right
