Snake fly

Has anyone ever seen a Snake fly? Does anyone have any yips on finding them or good localities (preferably in essex/kent/london area)?

I haven't seen one for a number of years. I have recorded them around Barnsley, just generally sweeping bushes in decent habitat, but I haven't checked up on their ecology - there may be better ways of finding them.

I would try sweeping Oaks in mid-summer

Snake Flies are never easy to find, they tend to keep high up in the trees, but is is very worthwhile sweeping long grass under Oaks after high winds.

Good advice, and you might find Notochrysa under similar circumstances.
