| | | Nymph ID please I suspect this could be a weevil, possibly vine weevil, but if someone knows exactly what this is, I would be grateful.
I found 2 in the soil of a hanging basket when replacing some soil.
Thanks.

| | | Re: Nymph ID please Vine weevil grubs have a sort of smiley mask as a face, if that makes any sense. I could be completely wrong, but as yet I wouldn't put the back garden to the fire and sword (or Sward).
Somebody competant will be along soon. |

I would advise you got rid of all the contents of that particular basket. If you look further you may find some grubs. They are white with an orange head and sit in a comma shape. If you've had a fuschia check the root very carefully. They can even tunnel up the root into the stem.

Barbara | Thanks Barbara - as long as you are sure thats what they are.
Yes, I know what vine weevils do, I know what the grubs and adults look like but never seen this stage before, hence my uncertainty. Strangely enough, there was no fuschia in there, but I was about to plant a young one in that basket
Thanks again.

| | | Re: Nymph ID please Although you wont be ale to get it to species unless you let it develop, it is an amazing photo. |

| | | Re: Nymph ID please Yes, I did think that the only way to be sure which one it was is to let it develop, but it was in a classic vine weevil place - the old hanging basket lol.
I did keep 2 in a jar with soil in (but no lid on) until I knew what they were but went to feed them to the Robin last night and they were gone - so only 3 days on and something had happened to them. They didnt look well enough developed to me to have crawled out.
Thanks for the compliment on the photo
