Found a beetle, but not sure what it is!

Hello folks. I'm new to this website...but I am confused over a beetle I found climbing up the tiles in my kitchen. It isn't black a usual household beetle. It is a grey/brown colour about 2cm long with a hard shell. Doesn't seem to have wings, but has little hairs on it's leg giving it a great grip to smooth surfaces. Has a smooth underside as well. It has a large abdomen that ends in a point and a tiny head with long antennae.

Can anyone help to what this could be?? I live in Orkney...it is nothing I have seen up here before...but then I don't really study a lot of instect.
Any help would be appreciated.

Would need more information than that, I'm afraid - could be all sorts of things but nothing nasty. So just throw it outside.
Do you have a cellar?

Thanks for the reply....but I think I have found out what it was....just a common ground beetle! It's back under our shed! Just had never seen one before and wondered why it was in the house.

Thanks anyway and if I ever come into contact with something strange again I'll contact this site.
