| | Some '08 Insects For ID/Conf. Thanks! A couple of flies requiring ID please. No. 1 Is this a leaf-cutter? - Underside - Upperside No. 2 I am interested in this fly. From a quick glance it appears to be black, but when the underside is viewed from behind plastic, it has a shiny orange, pointed abdomen with orange legs. The topside shows a shiny green abdomen, a yellow-gold thorax and a green head. It looks quite unique! No. 3 Finally, an aphid. Its main body is green but with a black central marking which tails off into green lines on the thorax.
Any help with IDs or confirmations will as always be very much appreciated!! |

| | | Re: Some '08 Insects For ID/Conf. Thanks! The bee is not a leafcutter. It is too early in the year for them.
This is a female of one of the larger Andrena species. Could be one of several species - it isn't easy to see the critical bits on this pic. There are quite a few Andrena around in Spring time. |

| | | Re: Some '08 Insects For ID/Conf. Thanks! If this were winged, I'd suggest Myzus persicae - a common species which has these patterns but only in the winged form. It's a bit of a low magnification so perhaps I'm missing them .... Quote:
