| | | ant problem aaaaahhhhhnnnnnnttttttsssss
their everywhere in my living room.... i had previously destroyed the nest as it was starting to encroach upon my living room in the thousands in the summer... i dug up my slabs (about 10 metre square) and strangely the throne room was easily available and i almost caught the queen but she slipped away deeper into the nest, so i chased it down with several kettles of water... this was war!
anyway 3 years = no ants.... this year, i find ants in the living room already... hundreds, soldiers and workers....
what can i do... ive got some any traps, designed to destroy the colony completly (poisoned food, slow acting so it kills the young) but anything else i can do? any more targeted attacks (although somehow i doubt much more is required beyond genocide.... )

| | | Re: ant problem My mum had ant for years behind the fire place..I told her to put diluted washing up liquid in a squeezey bottle and quirt the nest. This goes deep into the nest and kills all the ants..Good luck.. |

| | | Re: ant problem Have you an ID on the type of ant? It sounds very invasive, maybe to understand the species will give you some handle over dealing with it. |

| | | Re: ant problem Nippon ant traps will be eaten by the workers then fed to the larva and queen, killing her will stop any other eggs being laid. killing the larva will prevent new ants growing up.
But that leaves the adults and pupae. with an average life span of upto 3 weeks thats alot of ant footprints in your living room
Raid ant and cockraoch killer spray is like a fly spray but can be directed as a spray or jet and is residual in that where it is sprayed in jet form it stays active for weeks. Ants working over a liberal coating will clean themselves and injest the poison killing them.
Coat the holes that they are coming from with it and it will kill them for you. Be aware that pets, babies and toddlers must be kept away
Niether one on their own is to good a solution but together they work like dynamite. but do not use the raid until a week or so after putting the nippon down other wise you will be killing the ants that will transfer the poison to the queen and larvae.
As much as I love to have ants around in my garden and even encourage them, I draw the line at in my house.
