| | | Re: Insect of the Day Lots of insects around today with the beautiful weather. I found two nice hoverflies I hadn't seen this year, Merodon equestris and Cheilosia pagana, both males.
Also a very small Hylaeus bee and a Nomada bee I had not seen before, both I have not yet attemped to identify. |

| | | Re: Insect of the Day We had a London Natural History Society meeting at Hartslock Reserve today + lots of good insects.
Pleased to see a Club-tailed Dragonfly, a Beautiful + a couple of Banded Demoiselles for Odonata.
Plenty of butterflies- lots of Common Blues, 3 Green Hairstreaks including a very obliging female egg laying on Dogwood flowers under our noses, 3 Grizzled + several Dingy Skippers, couple of Small Heaths as well as more common species. Also a few moths with several Burnet Companions, Green Carpet, Cinnabar, Common Swift, Mint Moth + a Scoparia sp.
Lots of Summer Chafers visiting Hawthorn flowers + a metallic green Cryptocephalus on a buttercup.Good to see early nymphs of Roesel's bush-cricket + Long-winged Conehead.
Tristan found a Negro Bug + a another member found the rare shieldbug Canthophorus impressus which is associated with xexexexexexexe (pathetically the board won't let me use its common name!)Toadflax.
Many other goodies which combined with Red Kites overhead + some fabulous orchids + warm sunshine a brilliant day!
