My IotD will have to be a beautiful male Orange-tip Butterfly, and I'll have to add the blur that I think was my first Bee-fly! Well, I only saw it for literally a second as it alit a Dandelion - and I can't think of anything else that is dark-winged, with a small round orange body! |

I've noticed that it seems to be a good year for Beeflies in the garden. But the Holly Blue Butterfly that I saw here is my insect for today. |

First Speckled Woods and Holly Blue of the year.
Also first Rhingia campestris of the year - a favourite hoverfly of mine. |

Lots of other butterflies about as I went on a six hour walk on the edge of the Chilterns around the Beds/Bucks border. Numerous Brimstones, Speckled Woods and Peacocks, plus three or four Orange Tips and Small Tortoiseshells.
Saw an Orange Tip fly beside the house and into the back garden as I got home, too |

Lots of butterflies this afternoon when the weather improved- my favourite a gorgeous fresh male Orange Tip sat infront of us on a Dandelion. Quite a few OTs about here +twice saw a Green-veined White chase them. | | | |
