Its a Twenty-plume moth. Although its got a bit of wear, this is how they usually look. |

| | | Re: Insect of the Day Lots of insects in the sunshine today- Brimstones, all 3 common whites, Commas, Peacocks + my first Speckled Woods. Plenty of bees- queens of Bombus terrestris + a queen B. pascuorum; Anthophora plumipes + a bank with c100 Andrena flavipes.
Also my first 7-spot Ladybirds for the year- 2 basking on new Hazel foliage, 1st Whirligig + my best find a Slender Groundhopper at the edge of a ditch on bare ground- the first I've recorded at my local country park. |

I just love that rich golden orange! I had her on my hand for a while too.

| | | Re: Insect of the Day I saw a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly this morning, my first of the year. A bit early according to my Collins Gem Guide, but I think a few other WABbers have seen them too.
Not seen any Speckled Woods yet, though. |

| | | Re: Insect of the Day There were loads of bee flies today - can't recall seeing quite so many before - and I spent ages watching them. My insect of the day, however, is an Orange Underwing - it caught my eye because it wasn't flying like the Comma, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshells, so I followed it and was rewarded when it briefly landed on the path. Just managed a single not so good record shot: | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
