| | | Re: Insect of the Day More of an 'Arachnid of the Day' but I was on my way to bed last night when I realised I was not alone....
It was black and just over an inch long, and had a very compact body (I'm still too chicken to look in the Gallery and expose myself to larger spiders to find out what species it was ). I managed to get it in my tooth brush mug and put him out of my window where I knew he'd land on a nice soft planter full of impatiens .
Still not quite ready for the the big ones, but I'm getting there

| | | Re: Insect of the Day Saw a damselfly in my garden for the first time today. We get dragons occasionally but haven't seen a damsel before. Couldn't tell what species unfortunately. Not one of the blue ones but could have been an emerald. I didn't have my camera with me but it wouldn't have done any good if I had - it was blowing a hoolie here today so I'd never have got anything in focus.

| | | Re: Insect of the Day This is mine, it has something white on its back but it was too quick to get a proper look. I took lots of pics this was the best, but wrong angle.
Isn't that always the way.
It kept coming back so I may get another chance tomorrow.. |

| | | Re: Insect of the Day Had a good day today with a field meeting in my parish. First we had a look at last night's moth catch where we had 20+ species including Poplar + Small Elephant Hawkmoths, Scarce Silver Lines, Common + Blotched Emeralds, Burnished Brass + others.
After a while staring up at the Elms we eventually saw 3 White-letter + 1 Purple Hairstreak, with 1 of the former coming down to eye level nectaring on Bramble flowers. A couple of Marbled Whites amongst the Meadow Browns were a pleasing sight. Not bad for outer part of Ealing! |
