This fly would appear to be similar to a blue bottle, yet the orange paneling around the abdomen under the wings and the general head colouration is unusual - any ideas?  |

I am not very good with flies but can suggest Merodon equestris or Volucella pellucens, more likely the latter

The body is a match for v.pellucens but the eyes look a bit too orange. Has the pic been enhanced?
