I'm pretty sure that this is a cereal leaf beetle, but unsure if I can ID to species level. It looks like Oulema melanopus (or should it be O. melanopa? - the latter being the name on the NBN Gateway site), but I've got a feeling that O. rufocyanea is very similar to it.

Does anyone know if that's the case - and if I should just leave it as Oulema melanopus agg.?



It's a beetle I see in the garden (Lincs).

This could be either Oulema melanopus or Oulema rufocyanea these two species can only be distinguished by their dissection.

However more likely to be Oulema rufocyanea due to it being the commoner of the two species in the UK.
