I may have misidentified some pics can you tell me if I am right or wrong?
I think these are Silver-Washed Fritillarys one male and one female.
Thanks Looking |

| | | Re: Fritillary ID Please Yep i agree with you Looking & cherrybee.I was just going to ask you where you saw them, because it's about a month to early for them to be out.But i just looked at your photos exif & saw that these were from 2005
Very nice photos Looking,i really like the one of the male with his beautiful wings open. It's a pity that the thistle in the other photo is over the back of the females wings, but its still a lovely photo.
I haven't seen these butterflies before. But i'll be tracking them down this summer.
Where'd you find yours?
Cheers

| | | Re: Fritillary ID Please Yep, they were taken last year.
I came across them in streetfield wood, near Powdermill Rez in east sussex. http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.c...e=25000&icon=x
You should be able to see it on the left side of this map.

| | | Re: Fritillary ID Please The silver washed fritillaries are common in the New Forest. there are some specific rides near Brockenhurst that are being managed for this butterfly. Typically when I went there last year there werent any about! I did manage to find some else where though. Couldnt get them to stay still long enought to get a good picture though! |
