| | | Business end of Brown Centipede I thought you might be interested in seeing these 2 pics of a Brown Centipede ( Lithobius forficatus)taken at Salcey Forest (Northants) yesterday. This particular individual was most obliging and stayed put for a good couple of minutes before making the usual mad dash for cover.
I took the opportunity to get a couple of face-on shots of the head. Only the "ground" level image shows the business end of the poison fangs (forcipules) however the other shot does show the base of the fangs (they're modified legs apparently) and the maxillipeds quite well.

| | | Re: Business end of Brown Centipede I have since come across another term for the centipede's poison fangs: toxicognaths. Is this term interchangeable with the word "forcipules" or does it have a different meaning/emphasis?
Anyone able to enlighten me ?

I'm always accompanied by my Hungarian Vizsla dog (Maggy) so you can be pretty sure it's me.
