| | | Invertebrate Surveys Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any Invertebrate surveys that I can get involved in this year?
Over the past few years I've undertaken bird surveys for BTO but I was looking for something a bit different this year. I'm particularly interested in freshwater invertebrates.
All I seem to be able to find is the type of survey where you just contact a person if you see something in particular.
I live in Cumbria if that makes any difference.
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Invertebrate Surveys Hi Flighty, here is a link for Tulley House in Carlisle which you can submit all your wildlife findings in Cumbria to. I don't know if they are doing any surveys which appeal to you, but why not e-mail them and ask? I have had contact with them in the past and submitted my own sightings and found them really helpful and keen for contributions. Virtual Fauna of Lakeland home page
Good luck and welcome to WAB . |

| | | Re: Invertebrate Surveys I get the feeling that Flighty wants something intensive and directed rather than just collecting random records. There are, of course, many national surveys and almost any observation would find a home but I'm not aware of any surveys (other than those mentioned) which actively seek assistance. Quote:

| | | Re: Invertebrate Surveys Although it's a national recording scheme, the British Dragonfly Society has a active network of county recorders who can often provide help and ideas for surveys, see: British Dragonfly Society
The Freshwater Biological Association is based in Cumbria (Ambleside), and is running a series of workshops there that may of interest: http://www.fba.org.uk/recorders/trai...2007-2008.html
Cumbria Wildlife Trust is running a Freshwater Tarns survey, and has a Freshwater Volunteers Network: Cumbria Wildlife Trust

Fieldwork for the new National Dragonfly Atlas starts this spring - what with climate change and all that, we are expecting dramatic changes from the last Atlas published only just over a decade ago. Any help would be welcomed - especially in northern England. Those able to record the aquatic larval stages would be doubly welcomed!
Further details are available at British Dragonfly Society - National Atlas
Cheers,

| | | Re: Invertebrate Surveys Thanks everyone, thats great. I love the way that questions get answered so quickly here.
I'll definitely look into the Dragonfly, and Mayfly surveys. I was also already thinking of contacting the FBA but I'll get in touch with the BDS as well.
It looks like I've got a summer of messing around with bugs ahead of me - Excellent! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
