| | | Re: bugs and a bee. Not sure about the shield bugs but if the bumblebee had a buff 'bottom' it might be bombus terrestris?
I've left my bumble book in the office and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along before tomorrow! |

| | | Re: bugs and a bee. The bugs on stinging nettle are Heterogaster urticae, I think. Lygaeid bugs which can be very numerous. |

| | | Re: bugs and a bee. The bee looks like Bombus lucorum as the stripes look cleaner & more yellow than you get on B. terrestris |

| | | Re: bugs and a bee. Thanks for your replies guys, i was on the right track with the bee, even if it did turn its tip away from the camera as the photo was being taken.
Paul, the bugs, Heterogaster urticae and Bronze shield bug look exactly the same in my guidebook but seeing as they where on a stinging nettle and my book says they feed on nettles, not to mention it has their common name as Nettle ground bugs i will go with that.

| | | Re: bugs and a bee. Actually your bugs are on White Deadnettle rather than Stinging Nettle - not sure whether the bugs know the difference or not |

| | | Re: bugs and a bee. Thanks for picking up on that, i was reading and typing at the same time, maybe not the best thing to do! and typed stinging nettle as i was reading the description in my book. But rest assured i did see some more on stinging nettles that same day. Should always pay attetion as my mum said when i was a nipper. Plus i know what white deadnettle looks like as there is a profusion of them in my local park. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
