Is this a robber-fly, please
Caught this chap yesterday afternoon basking in the sun on our garage wall. I have had a look at Chinnery and wonder if it is a robber-fly, possibly Laphria flava. As usual, open to, and expecting, correction

Fraid not- it's a drone fly hoverfly Eristalis sp (probably tenax). What may be confusing is it's extending it's proboscis for cleaning - not normally visible.

... but a nice picture of the extended proboscis ..... not that commonly seen
