| | | maggots hello to to you all
i was walking though some reed beds yesterday and when i looked at my coat and leggins i was astounded to see hundreds of small white maggots were crawling over them the maggots were about 5mm long and white.i wonderd what could be breeding this late in the year, they were all crawling on the reed stems a fantastic food for some bird hopefully. can any one tell me please what these lava are going to turn in to, thanks. the reeds are on a suffolk river bank |

| | | Re: maggots Blowflies are still breeding at this time of year. I recently had large numbers of maggots inside the lid of one of my compost bins. |

| | | Re: maggots hi
i thought i would add some more details about these maggots to see if it would help, they were definitly maggots large one end narrowing down to a small piont. the strange thing is they were on the reeds all along the dykes some of the reedbeds are 300 yards long and the maggots were all away along the reed beds. so i think they were not blowflys as they were over sutch a area and the maggot are very small to be blowfly or similar. |

| | | Re: maggots perhaps there was some thing dead on the ground that you didnt notice, and as you walked by, your cloths brushed against the reeds,or a fisherman threw his pot of maggots away,by the way welcome to the site. |

| | | Re: maggots Just strange as they would struggle to stay on the reed without leg's. Interesting. At first i though it was something like the iris sawfly Rhadinocerea micans but then again far to late for it. And it would have to be in early stage of development, so doubtful. Hm....interesting. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
