There must be many insects in less well known orders present waiting for their respective expert to stumble across them.
Always fascinating to hear of these new discoveries! |

| | | Re: new insect species i have made an account on this site as at around an hour ago, my brothers found a strange, thin insect in their room. it was familiar to a damsel fly, but was not on the list for anything. i kept it in a glass and researched for its species. i didnt find anything. i had put a cotton ball in their which was soaked with water so it can drink, when it jumped from the top of the glass and started to repeatedly force the bottom of its abdomen into the swab. when it stopped, i saw a small tail thin like hair coming from it. i had gotten a stick and tried to pull at it slightly because i thought it was hair, but it was stuck onto it. i looked on this website and there was a picture from a guy in kentucky USA, and the insect looked just like the one i found. i am in the uk and have never seen anything like this. it looks to be a wasp-like insect. |

| | | Re: new insect species Your "side on" view is a fairly diagnostic. Do a Google on Ctenophora flaveolata - this is a species of cranefly whose larvae develop in soggy hollows in woodland. It's likely to be this species, if not something closely related. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
