Bug Books

Hi everyone,

I'm interested, but not too knowledgeable about bugs, my interest in the subject actually stems from my liking of photography. Recently I've been wandering about and taking a number of opportunistic closeups of bugs, I then try to identify them when I get home, this brings me to my questions

What are good books / Web Sites for identifying bugs in general?
Has anyone got any good books with Caterpillars in (my Butterfly books only show a small number of caterpillars)
When I've identified a bug what are good books for learning more (any kind of bug that's common in the UK)

If anyone can advise me, I'd be very grateful.

To get you started, a very good resource for caterpillars can be found here:

For the basics about bugs you could try Nick Baker's Bug Book, but for more detail you'll probably need to look at something like this:

or even a book on entomology

Thanks for that response, I've managed to identify one of the caterpillars I was interested in, unfortunately not the other. I'll have to keep digging.
