Hello,
I live in Texas and found one of these in my garden, I would like to know more about him but can't find anything on the internet until I came across this site. Can anyone help educate me on what he eats, will he sting me what type of weather does he like, where should I put him because originally he was on my front porch. Appreciate any information! |

From what I can find out its a Moth and perfectly harmless.  Imperial Moth
Apparently they feed on
Quercus (Oak)
Acer (Maple)
Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum)
Sassafras albidum (Sassafras)
Pinus (Pine)
Paul

Hi Bab and welcome to WAB!
Your Imperial is a monster of a moth! The larvae are absolutely huge. You may not be surprised to learn they are similar to our Emperor Moth, also family Saturniidae.
Apparently, they look a bit like a cat's face to birds and so escape predation by them. Fascinating stuff! | | |
