| | | Re: Beetle I.D. Well there are several thousand of them in UK so you really need to be able to get them down to family first. Unfortunately I don't know any website that helps with this - I should obviously do something about it myself. 
Once you do learn to recognise families then there are some good facilities on the internet, especially: The Coleopterist However for many species you will never be 100% certain from a photo ... but it's fun trying! Good luck. |

I was just thinking about how one recognises a ground beetle - because it looks like a ground beetle  The defining criteria are that it doesn't have swimming or digging legs (although some species do), has filiform antennae (not clubbed or short) with eleven segments, eyes on sides of top of the head.... the most definitive criteria are on the underside of the body and need a microscope ....as I said .... it just looks like a ground beetle really!
