Hi All,
I'm getting some decent references for hoppers sent from Germany, but they're stuck in the post, and I just can't wait any longer.  I've not seen this one illustrated anywhere, and would really appreciate any help!
It was found on an oak tree on the southern side of Box Hill, Surrey, and was about 3 mm long.

Never seen that species before, very nice looking insect. Its such a large and diverse family. |

Cheers, Dogghound. It is a wonderful group of critters, and many of them are quite stunning. I'm sure this will turn out to be a common one, but they're so poorly known in general that hardly anyone seems to have looked at many. I'd love to know what this is, though, and it's so distinctive that there has to be a name just waiting for the right person/book to leap on it... |

Very reminiscent (although body pattern quite different) of the Zyginella pulchra mentioned in a recent thread - perhaps closely related species within the Cicadellidae? Very interesting .......

Cheers, Paul. It's definitely Cicadellidae, and I reckon almost certainly the same subfamily. There's a genus called Erythroneurawith many species based on this sort of pattern, but I've found nothing very close, yet. |
