| | | Glorious weather I hope everyone's enjoying this fantastic spell of autumnal weather. It's glorious here in the Lakes with the misty mornings - twelve herons standing in a field at dawn all hunched up with their legs obscured by a layer of mist - as if they were sitting on a cloud.
Walking out of a wood overlooking Windermere and across to the Coniston Fells yesterday morning, I saw a butterfly circling a small damson tree in a garden. It eventually landed and climbed to a small withered fruit where it presumably attempted to feed from the high concentration of sugar it contained. It was a comma and appeared to be freshly hatched - so late?
Badger tracks in the early morning dew, the mating activity of bats, so much happening. If you can, get out and enjoy it before it rains! |

| | | Re: Glorious weather It's been lovely here too, a last minute attempt at Summer I think . Still lots of wildlife about, especially Wasps, seen plenty of those. I don't know how long it's supposed to last but I agree, make the most of it. |

| | Re: Glorious weather Leading a walk on Wimbledon Common we had a little sun, but mainly cloud (last 2 days were mainly sunny), but still found some nice bugs. No butterflies, but a few Vaporour Moths, a male Southern Hawker actively hunting at a pond's edge, Migrant Hawker, several Common Darters + with some sweeping/beating 4 spp of ladybird (7, 22 +24-spot, Harlequin), Forest Bug, Parent Bug + a good tally of spiders.
Good variety of birds including Wigeon, Gadwall, Green + GS Woodpeckers, Kingfisher, Stonechat + Redpoll.
A frustratingly brief glimpse of a Common Shrew, tons of Earthballs + a Spindle in glorious autumn colour. |

I can't remember the last time I was in the lakes in Autumn. As you say enjoy it while you can, it will soon be raining again | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
