| | | Wine ropes Don't laugh. I've got a recipe for sugaring and wine ropes to attract moths (which we are doing next weekend) but I don't know what size rope to use. Big enough to pull the QE2 or boot-lace thickness.
Any moth'ers had a bash at this before by the way-what should we expect?

| | | Re: Wine ropes Doesn't have to be ropes, you could use anything cloth like - a pair of old socks etc, it depends where you intend to hang them?

| | | Re: Wine ropes I normally just use strips of cloth - but anything that will soak up the wine mixture will do.
If you've not done it before be warned that you'll probably get some less welcome visitors along with the moths. I stopped 'sugaring' after the garden was inundated with wasps and hornets!

| | | Re: Wine ropes Well, bit late but I did the wine rope thing this evening on the reserve. My wine obviously wasn't to their taste as we attracted nowt. However, we did attract dozens of earwigs, centipedes and beetles so it was still worth it. In torchlight on the reserve we caught sight of some ground beetles methodically chopping up a worm and taking the chunks away which was fascinating.
We did moth trap a pristine Southern Hawker that kept on coming back each time we released it. Daft thing!
It's a whole set of other inverts out and about in the darkness. A worthwhile time to have a look if you get the chance.

Sounds like an interesting evening! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
