| | Identification needed please I'm hoping someone might know what the following photographs are of.
I took them the other day and I think I know what the first one is...Green Tiger Beetle
But the others I have no clue about.
The second one was taken in a puddle and it was swimming merrily around and the third is of two insects on a flower.
Anyone have any idea?
Jo

Not sure whether the second one is a type of diving beetle or just a type of ground beetle that fell in.
A type of spider-hunting wasp, maybe Anoplius viaticus with a type of Honey Bee. |

| | | Re: Identification needed please Thanks Alan
The beetle swimming was diving and then dabbling about, then going under roots and leaves, so he wasn't or didn't appear to be an accidental 'fall in' one, or I would have rescued it
I will try and look up the other two flying insects now you have given me a starting point. I really don't know my bugs at all
Cheers
Jo

| | | Re: Identification needed please Looks to me like one of the Ichneumons. Th antennae appear to have the characteristic small segments in them. Possibly Ichneumon suspiciosus. One of our brilliant insect specialists will know for sure.
The beetle in the water looks like it may have fallen in. Doesn't look that comfy swimming does it.Don't know that one and water distorts image somewhat. Good pictures though.ww |

The second image is a Screech Beetle hygrobia hermanni
The third image is an ichneumoid species but it is not suspiciosus as there are no pale bands on the fore-legs or antennae, the abdomen is also the wrong shape, ie too short.
Hope this helps |
