Fly ID, wasp like - No pic

A year or 2 ago I found a huge fly about 1 inch long had big fly like eyes had fly like wings, had yellow brown/black stripes in narrow bands (I think). It was predominately fly shaped (just big and yellow striped).

I just saw a thread mentioning Urocerus gigas and it looked nothing like that.

Was in South Wales.

have a look in our Gallery do a search on hoverfly, perhaps even Volucella specifically and see if any of those look right

Could have been
Volucella Inanis or V.Zonaria
The one I saw was huge though.
