| | | Re: large wasp like insect Yes they are native. They're normally found in coniferous plantations - the larvae feed within the wood. |

| | | Re: large wasp like insect Hi sorry if i did this wrong because i registered today as i was intrested in a insect i saw today. I was at my daughters school and a HUGE wasp like creature came along it must have been 4 to 6 inches long (10 to 15 cm). I saw it up close because it landed on someone i knew and i was right behind them. it had a black head and an orangey yellowy body with one black band in the middle its legs were also yellow it also had red on it and it had a long fat sting like thing on its bum but it looked too fat too be a stinger. It didnt match anything i have seen on the internet as it was too fat it must have been about 2 to 4 cm wide. i wuld be very greatful if anyone could reply because i am concerend for my daughter as if it stings i think it could kill someone i have often heard things like this can be very agressive. I live near Dundee and i have never heard or seen of anything like this before! Any help would be much appreciated. |

Killed a 2" wasp as you described above with a huge sting about 1/2 - 3/4 inch in size. Have no idea why this species is in scotland went on web to try and find out anything about it and came across your request. ian | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
