Was out at my local lake today and saw a few different species of Dragonfly. Until today I had only seen Brown Hawkers. By the time I saw the second type of Hawker it was too hot and they didn't want to land
I did see the Hawkers flying with their abdomen (am I right in calling it that?) bent right underneath it upto it's mouth whilst in flight. Would it have been eating on the wing??
I managed to get some shots of what I think are Common Darters but confirmation would be great thanks. I had to get on my stomach and crawl down a hill head first to get these shots but I think it was worth it
Also, anybody know what this fly is??
With regards to the Dragonfly pic, does anyone think it is under-exposed? With it being on a white rock I think that a touch more exposure would have made it glarey but any opinions are more than welcome.
Thanks
Simon
EDIT: Forgot to mention, whilst laid on the ground taking the Dragonfly shots I heard this whoosh which made me jump, only to look up and see a Kingfisher about 10 feet away! For a small bird they don't half displace some air!!
