| | | Speckled wood Still not seen any painted ladys this year but had a nice surprise afew moments ago, a speckled wood just flew into the kitchen, its a first for me and according to the distribution maps a first for North Yorkshire which is great and a good indicator that the species is spreading. Anyone else noticed any new species spreading into their patches? |

| | | Re: Speckled wood I recorded a single Speckled Wood on a reserve in Newcastle recently, and upon talking to the warden it appears there have been a few sightings in the NE, would be nice to see them establishing properly again up here.

| | | Re: Speckled wood I think perhaps the distribution maps need updating on various websites , great to see that they are spreading up here though |

| | | Re: Speckled wood Well that was spooky! When I last posted there was my piccy (this one) in the banner at the top of the forum lol!
Although they're two-tone I think they're lovely! Not seen any recently though - perhaps they've blown over eastwards to you Dogghound?!? I'd say my most common butterflies in my garden atm are whites and peacocks |

| | | Re: Speckled wood If you had been at Marazion Marsh, near Penzance, on Aug 25th you would have been in Speckled Wood heaven. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of the little beauties. There wasn't anywhere I walked towards the Kingfisher hide that there wasn't one. They were even chasing some of the Dragonfly and Damselfly's.
