Never heard of a Hazel Shieldbug.
I would say Birch Shieldbug Elasmostethus interstinctus. |

| | | Re: Hazel shield bug I say Hawthorn too, the shoulders are too pointy for birch, and birch is usually a bit more colourful.

Hello K9
This is a Hawthorn Shieldbug, despite it's name it can also be beaten from or found on almost any berry bearing tree, shrub or bush. It's a common species throughout the British mainland.

| | | Re: Hazel shield bug I also took a photo of a Hawthorn shield bug today (not as good as yours though).
My husband and I were driving along and the bug was on the front windscreen. I stopped the car, emptied my glasses case and put the bug in it until I got home. Then I was able to photograph it.
My husband is now totally convinced that I am mad.
Who knows?
Maybe I am. |
