large red insect
hi all we recently found this insect in the house never seen anything like it before it was bright red in colour and about 6cm long does anyone know what they are managed to upload a picture from my phone

An ichneumon- possibly Ophion luteus, but there are similar species + I doubt that anybody could be certain from this photo as ichneumons are a real specialist field + I'm not one of them!

i have had a look at pics of the ichneumon wasp and ophin luteus but this insect was all one colour bright red long and slim and doesn't seem to resemble any of the pics i have seen

Try the post " Red flying bug with sting " by CroZ, there's a good pic further down, same bug as yours,
