Hi
yesterday in my garden, i seen a wasp like insect, it was about 2 inches long - coloured like a wasp, with big wings and a huge sting. I thought it might be a hornet??
Ive never seen a thing like this before, any ideas??  |

Your mention of a huge sting made me immediately think of a Horntail or something similar.The "sting" on these is actually an ovipositor used for laying eggs into wood and is harmless.

Not sure what it could be, one thing though most of these "big stings" are in fact ovipositers (for egg laying) and are absolutely harmless. Cheers
