| |  Bugging Me?
Every now and then I see a tiny insect that I have never been able to identify. I am no good at macro photos so I am unable to post a picture.
It is shaped like a silver fish, possibly smaller , and is black with a red band round its middle.
Anyone got any ideas on this one? |

Anyone got any ideas on this one? | Im assuming you mean a silverfish as in the insect (or non-insect hexapod depending what classification you believe..but thats off topic). I believe what your seeing is Tachyporus hypnorum or one of the similar rove beetles |

Hi Dan,
I don't know what else to call silver fish. If it is an old term then maybe that's because I'm getting on a bit and I have read many old books. |

No...i was agreeing with you ( i think)?....i dont know what they are actually called but i have grown up calling them silverfish..the little...well..silver fish type bugs you find in dusty old books? |

Thanks for the quick response. It is indeed Tachyporus Hypnorum (google images confirm). That is another mystery solved. |

henrya | I would agree with henrya on this one, there an awful amount of Staphylinidae that are similar looking, you would need closer inspection, although Tachyporus hypnorum is one of them so there is a chance its this species. | | |
