I'm with the Dogghound....L. 4-fasciata me thinks...I will trawl out that key to this group when I return from hols. In the meantime most of them are listed on the Coleopterist web site.
See: The Coleopterist - Photo gallery - Leptura quadrifasciata
for this species....other are listed including R. maculata.
Cheers

| | | Re: Beetle ID - possible longhorn Hi Jon, your ID is correct, but don't forget Leptura quadrifasciata, Strangalia quadrifasciata and Leptura 4-fasciata are synonymous.

| | | Re: Beetle ID - possible longhorn Hi
Thanks O_alba and welcome to the forum. I know about the synonomy of the species. The current names for all UK beetles are listed on the Coleopterist web site and they are very different from those listed in Kloet and Hincks (as updated by Pope). Check out the weevil revisions by prof Morris to see how much can change!
Unfortunately, started working with beetles about 25 years ago so my mind pulls through old names and then I need to work through the new name changes - it is a little bothersome. I
Cheers

| | | Re: Beetle ID - possible longhorn You have much more experience under your belt with beetles than me Jon. After a recent ID mistake between L.aurulenta and L.quadrifasciata, I can say (apart from well known beetles), Leptura is one of only a few genera I can identify properly!
