| | | Re: Beetle ID - possible longhorn Hi all,
I've been trying to ID this longhorn I found today but none of my normal references are coming through for me! Seeing this thread I thought you may be able to help?
This beetle is the size of a cockchafer, so pretty substantial. It looks similar to the one mentioned in this thread, but has red antennae, and I can't find any pics of the species you mention with this colouration.
Thanks! |

Thanks! | Hi and welcome to the site!
I think your beetle is Leptura aurulenta, from what I can see it's a scarce species, so a great find and a beautiful insect! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Pete | It's probably worth reporting your sighting, either to your local biological records centre or this scheme - BRC - Recording Sceme details
Here's a map of its distribution in the UK, as you can see it is not a common insect! NBN Gateway - interactive species mapper
Again, nice find!

| | | Re: Beetle ID - possible longhorn GuyF,
I've made a report of the sighting to the Southampton Natural History Society and also the BRC using the email address on the link you sent me.
Thanks again!
