red cranefly thing??

it was like this photo, i just had to get it out my room in a glass, and he was waving his bum about which looked like he was trying to sting me, as he had a thin point and the end of his body, is he dangerous i.e can sting???

It doesnt sting no. Its a female as can be seen by the pointed abdomen and Ovipositer not a sting

Its a type of ultima species

my guess is it could be a Hanging Fly 'Bittacus Tipularius' Mecoptera order? I'm trying to ident myself a fly not too disimiliar to the one in your photo, it's Driving me Mad

Now that you say it its got 4 wings yes Mecoptera, not sure which tho.
